Autumn Song
This painting is part of an ongoing series of works that I call "Hidden Wonders". I began to experiment with ways of painting that utilize chance derived elements and found that fractal patterns could be organically created on a canvas by utilizing a sort of pull-away technique with very thick paint or medium. I was enthralled with the complex patterns and textures I had before me. They were completely chance derived and in essence they represent the nature of physics and the very phenomenon of the natural world which I had been investigating. As I gazed into the patterns I began to see a multitude of organic forms appear before my eyes. I began painting the spaces in between the complex network of fractal patterns. Strange and surreal landscapes emerged as I let the patterns and forms derived by chance dictate to me the forms and content of each piece. What is intriguing to me is how these shapes and forms within these paintings so easily mimic an organic landscape or life form.
The color and mood of this particular piece spoke to me of autumn and peaceful warm breezes. Though each person may see something different in these paintings; I saw a beautiful autumn sky, and forested hillsides of colored trees, a rushing creek and soft green grasses.
